about Curious People

Curious People was founded in London in 2026, after nearly a decade of incubation, as an independent production company focused on short films and documentaries.

Its first production, Saddled, was released in 2026.

About the identity

The name Curious People comes from a very old postcard, possibly from the 1930s, which Ruben photographed in a museum somewhere in the UK — although he can no longer remember where.

On the back, it carried a message: “There were some very curious people on the beach today…”

Beside it was a small wooden figurine, a toy man wearing a little hat. That figure went on to become the production company’s logo.

Curious People was chosen as the name because anyone who makes creative work should, first and foremost, be curious. Trying new things also requires a strong sense of curiosity, openness and a willingness to explore.

The people who work on our projects tend to share one defining quality above all others: a vivid curiosity and an open mind.

The toy man, meanwhile, was chosen because play and enjoyment are, in many ways, at the heart of creativity. The fact that the postcard and the toy man appeared next to each other in the original photograph took on an unexpected symbolism — one that naturally found its way into Curious People’s first visual identity.

About the founder

Ruben Giovannoni was born in 1992 and started making videos in 2012, mostly to make his friends laugh. Somewhere along the way, he realised he actually quite liked editing.

He went on to make it his profession for almost a decade, while continuing to develop independent projects. In 2017, he produced the documentary Bologna l’Autonoma and later contributed to the screenplay of another documentary, Ricostruzione Emilia-Romagna 2012–2022.
